The Alresford Ukulele Jam brought their quirky ukulele juke box with a host of songs – pop, rock, rap and Xmas favourites to the Sunhill Infant School’s Xmas Bazaar and managed to raise £110 during the afternoon.

While children and their families were enjoying food from all around the world and eagerly waiting for their turn to see the big man himself Father Christmas they enjoyed choosing songs from the jukebox play list.

The AUJ donated a ukulele for the Bazaar raffle and managed to get donations towards the amount raised on the day.

The day was a brilliant success with juke box favourites such as I wanna be like you and Taylor Swift’s Shake it off getting multiple plays while new songs were aired for the very first time.

The highlight of the afternoon had to be the rendition of OutKast’s Hey Ya!

Many of the ukulele jam members have children in the school and it was important to help raise funds for the school as part of the community.

All the hard work put into the organisation and running of the day takes a real effort from the teachers, former pupils (year 3 juniors who were Father Christmas elves) and the parents who run stalls, bake dishes and make the day run like clockwork.

“It is our second outing at the infant Bazaar and we had such a great time” “it is always nice to see people enjoying our quirky renditions of modern songs along with Christmas favourites” said Jon Cranfield a founder member of the Alresford Ukulele Jam.

The AUJ will be playing at the Globe at the Soke this Tuesday 1st December from 8pm. People are more than welcome to join us and play. You can the song books on the Songs

On the 8th December the AUJ will be heading to the Tichborne Arms as part of a winter tour over December and January.

The next open air gig will be on the 12th December at 9.30am at the top of Broad Street outside the Horse and Groom where the ukuleles will be providing the music for carols and other Xmas songs in support of Cherry Trees Pre school while the Rotary sell their Christmas trees
